This is what I plan to make tonight.
Looks pretty good right?! Well only problem is it’s not real meat… it’s Seitan, a meat substitute. Which on the plate looks pretty close to the real thing but let me tell you in the package looks quite different. But one of my goals for the year is to be Vegan for at least one month so I have to ease into this thing. Oh Seitan don’t disappoint me!

have you tried tempeh? it’s way better for you than tofu and i think has a better texture and flavor. it’s a great substitute; i’ve never heard of seitan. i don’t trust anything that sounds like “satan” hehe jk. but we should talk food soon, i’ve learned a lot from all my crazy hippie friends. some interesting/scary stuff about soy products. anyway, lovin’ your blog as always. talk to ya soon!
love, jena
Seitan is not a soy product, it’s wheat gluten and it doesn’t contain soy unless it happens to be flavored with it, as in the case of package on the left.
It has a good “chew” and while on it’s own it doesn’t taste like meat, or much of anything really, if you learn to season it appropriately it can be pretty darn convincing. I’ve tricked many a carnivore with the stuff.
You could sub tempeh (soy product) if you like the stuff, but I personally think it’s bitter, even with a pre-boil.
Love the layout of your website.
best of luck!
